Prepaid Meters Mandatory For All Government Buildings
All government buildings, including residences are to be fitted with pre-paid meters within the next two months, as part of aggressive drive to conserve energy in the public sector.
This follows the looming crisis of the energy sector, culminating in load-shedding throughout the country.
It also forms part of moves by the government to cut down on energy consumption by ministries, departments and agencies as part of a cost-cutting exercise. The Minister of Energy, Mr. Joseph Kofi Adda, made this known to the Daily Graphic in Accra yesterday, before a scheduled meeting with a team that was to finalise details of directive to public servants on the efficient use of energy in government offices and residences.
He said as part of the measures, air conditioners and cooling units would only be switched on between 10a.m and 4pm, when the weather is hot. Also windows should be opened to let in breeze instead of the constant dependence on air conditioners, besides using light curtain materials to minimize the dependence on electric lights. Mr. Adda described the measures as practical and simple actions that had to be taken by all Ghanaians to help in the conservation of energy in the country.
